Frequently Asked Questions
What do you learn in music lessons?
That question is often asked by prospective students. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals.
We do not treat every student the same in terms of what and how we teach.
A 7-year-old having their first guitar lesson will have very different needs than a 57-year-old taking up piano for the second time after having had lessons as a child.
The main reason to choose SoundLife Music Academy as your music lesson provider is that we are sensitive to the fact that every student is an individual.
If you enroll here for lessons, we will work with you to make a plan that will fit your needs and musical preferences. At the first lesson, your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child.
What styles of music do you teach?
We teach all styles!
Are your instructors qualified?
Our teachers have received their education from prestigious institutions such as New York University, Berklee College of Music, Musicians Institute, University of North Texas, University of Southern California, and Los Angeles Academy of Music. All of our instructors have gone on to have successful performance careers, touring the US and beyond, having years of experience on stage and in the teaching room. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly, and strive to get to know each student and their parent(s) on a personal level.
Are your instructors required to have a background check?
Yes. Our teachers must submit a background check before working with SoundLife Music Academy.
Do I have to have my own instrument?
It is best to have a starter instrument of your own to practice on. If you want to play piano, a simple keyboard will do. If you're starting with drums, a practice pad and sticks is enough. For guitarists, a quality beginner guitar can cost as little as $100. If you have questions about what to purchase, please feel free to call 323-825-9566 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will be happy to help.
Are your teachers on time?
Our teachers do their absolute best to get to each and every lesson on time, but as you know, we live in Los Angeles. We ask students to give their instructors a 15-minute window. If, for any reason, a teacher does not show up for their lesson and has not communicated, please call us and we will take care of the problem.
How does scheduling work?
Lessons are scheduled on a weekly basis. Lesson time and lesson day can be adjusted at any time by speaking directly with your instructor or by emailing us.
You will receive an automated lesson reminder from us regarding your appointment(s). If anything seems incorrect, please let us know and we will be happy to make it right.
What is the Cancellation Policy?
We ask for 48-hour notice for all cancellations, though we understand that this is not always possible. Lessons will only be charged for cancellations with less than 24-hour notice. We do make exceptions in the case of emergency; we simply ask that you communicate the situation with us. You can cancel an appointment through your LMS student or parent profile.
How does payment work?
Please see our company policies below.
What if we would like to stop taking lessons?
A student can stop taking lessons at any time. Should you wish to discontinue lessons, simply let us know.
Is there a referral program?
Yes. We offer a $25 Gift Card per referral issued to our current students for referring new students who sign up for lessons with SoundLife Music Academy.

SoundLife Music Academy holds two annual student showcases in May and December of each year. These showcases are optional for all students, but encouraged. Information about registering for the recital will be made readily available months prior to the event. We encourage all students to participate.
Registration for the concert is $60 per student. This registration fee includes photography and a completely edited video of the student's performance. We also offer students the opportunity to perform as part of a band for the showcase, which requires a full rehearsal. The fee for this rehearsal is $30 per student, which includes studio rental costs, instructor, and pizza for all participants. These additional fees are automatically charged to the card on file. Students enrolled in the Performance Pro Package already have these fees included in their prepaid packages and will not have to pay separately for registration. Admission to the Student Showcase is 100% free, and all are welcome.
SoundLife Music Academy donates a portion of all profits to charity every month. We are currently supporting "Free Arts", which works to provide free arts education for homeless and abused children throughout Los Angeles.
Local Performance Opportunities
Occasionally we get requests from local charities, businesses, and schools to provide live music for their events. We pass these requests to our top student performers to ensure that our students get real world performance experience in a variety of settings.
SoundLife Music Academy provides a monthly newsletter for all students and their families. This newsletter will come via email. The newsletter is full of helpful, relevant information for aspiring musicians. Please watch out for this each month, and feel free to share it around.
