Develop an Ear for Quality
Today recording equipment is more readily available than ever, and the idea that it's possible to create your own music from nothing is one of the most exciting elements of a modern musical experience. Our Recording Program has students taking personalized one-on-one lessons with writing and recording professionals who have worked with artists of all styles.
In our comprehensive Recording Program, students will learn the technical skills necessary to know their way around today’s recording interfaces. Whether students want to produce their own music or record the music of others, we’ll work with them to understand the various stages of the process, from recording to mixing and mastering. At any level from beginner to advanced, our Recording Program can help students take their game to the next level.
How Does it Work? (FAQ)
Do I need any prior experience with recording software?
No prior recording experience is necessary, but if a student has some, that’s great! Our accomplished teachers can work with all students regardless of their level of recording knowledge.
Do I need to know how to play an instrument(s)?
Instrumental proficiency is not required for the Recording Program. However, we do highly encourage recording students to also study an instrument to help increase their awareness and understanding of topics covered in recording lessons.
Is there an age minimum for the Recording Program?
Students must be at least 10 years old to participate in our Recording Program to ensure they get the results they are after. The program requires that each student take part in recording and engineering exercises centered around a variety of musical styles. This, combined with weekly production assignments typically means that younger students are not able to get the most out of the program. With that said, students under 10 are welcome to submit home recording samples (any recorded material) to be considered.
Do I have to purchase any software prior to beginning lessons?
For students with no prior experience recording, we begin by using Garageband. This software is free for Mac and iOS users. As students progress, more advanced software and hardware will be required. Read our awesome helpful article on how to get started with your first home recording setup!
Is the Recording Program in-studio or online?
Whichever option you prefer! All SoundLife recording lessons are offered in-person or online, or a combination of the two. Our professional recording teachers can work with you remotely as you learn to use all types of recording software from the comfort of your own home, but for elements like live instrument recording, we suggest in-person sessions at our teacher’s studio. And of course, our teachers can also come to your home for lessons in your own studio.
