Write and Perform Original Songs
We all have a story to tell, and songwriting is an awesome way to truly understand how music works. Not only is learning how to write lyrics and put them to music a cathartic experience, but it’s also a powerful tool to master for individual players or members of a band. We offer a full songwriting program with writing and recording professionals who have worked with artists of all styles.
In our comprehensive Songwriting Program, students will learn the skills necessary to express the musical ideas in their head. We’ll work with students to understand their style and goals, then guide them in learning how to express those goals to others in both written and recorded form.
The world of songwriting is deeper than most know, and we will help students understand song styles, from ballads to bangers, introspective love songs to bluesy rockers, and much more. We also help students explore the different options available to professional songwriters, including music for sync with motion picture and television, co-writing with artists, toplining, and building their brand as a solo artist.

How Does it Work? (FAQ)
Do I need any previous experience to learn songwriting?
No previous experience is necessary, but we do ask that songwriting students come with an open ear. While the curriculum is customized with a focus on what each student finds most engaging, it is a comprehensive program that has students participate in listening and writing exercises covering a variety of musical styles.
Do I need to play an instrument in order to participate?
Instrumental proficiency is not necessary - but of course it’s beneficial! Songwriting students will be exposed to a variety of instruments throughout the curriculum.
How long is the program?
Our school calendar is broken down into 3 twelve week semesters. All lessons are ongoing from one semester to the next, however each semester students must set goals with their instructor and then showcase the results of their work. For solo performers and bands this means performing at one of our concerts. For songwriting and recording students this means completing recording and writing projects to be shared with friends, family, or the world.
Is there an age requirement?
Students must be at least 10 years old to participate in our Songwriting program to ensure they get the results they are after. Our songwriting program requires each student to take part in independent creative writing and listening exercises centered around a variety of musical styles. This, combined with weekly writing and recording assignments typically means that younger students are not able to get the most out of the program. With that said, students under 10 are welcome to submit writing samples (music, lyrics, poetry, etc) to be considered.
