Congratulations to Kamayo on being selected as our July Student of the Month!
We are thrilled to announce Kamayo as SoundLife’s July Student of the Month! Kamayo has been a dedicated member of our musical family, demonstrating remarkable growth and passion for music. From the very beginning, Kamayo’s enthusiasm for learning and commitment to excellence have set him apart as a standout student.
Kamayo began his musical journey with us as a guitar student under our Lead Instructor & Team Manager, Enrique Lara. His progress has been nothing short of impressive, mastering complex chords and scales with ease and continuously challenging himself to reach new heights. Kamayo's ability to learn and apply advanced techniques has made him a role model for his peers, inspiring them to push their own boundaries. Recognizing Kamayo’s exceptional potential, Enrique decided it was time for him to move to an instructor whose principal instrument is guitar. Since then, Kamayo has been taking lessons with Lorenzo Taddei, and his progress has skyrocketed.
What truly makes Kamayo exceptional is his dedication and love for music. He practices diligently, not just to perfect his own skills but also to expand his knowledge of the guitar and its traditions. Kamayo works not only on electric guitar techniques and songs but also studies classical guitar, which requires an entirely different skill set. Through this discipline, he has learned to read and interpret music and advanced his fingerstyle technique.
For Showcase XXII, Kamayo performed two selections. The first was with our All-Star House Band, a piece entitled “Splash” by the progressive instrumental band Chon. This complex piece required the rest of the band to spend serious hours learning the material before the rehearsal. The second piece he performed was "Capricho Árabe" by Francisco Tárrega, a traditional classical guitar piece that is standard repertoire for college-level guitarists. Playing a delicate piece like this after hearing loud band after loud band is not easy, but Kamayo managed to command the audience’s attention. He performed ahead of his scheduled time due to another performer running late, demonstrating true professionalism.
Kamayo Quizon’s journey with SoundLife is a testament to what can be achieved through hard work, dedication, and a genuine passion for music.
