At SoundLife, we have the privilege of watching young musicians grow, not just in their technical abilities, but in their confidence, creativity, and self-expression. This month, we are proud to recognize Nathan Devore as our Student Of The Month, a talented guitarist and vocalist who has been part of the SoundLife family since May 2020.
Nathan studies under the guidance of master guitarist Eric Potapenko, and over the years, he has demonstrated remarkable dedication to his craft. Like many students, he started his musical journey with a deep love for playing but was still finding his voice as a performer. He participated in several Showcases, steadily building his skills and stage presence.

For a time, Nathan was a member of the band GRB, where he collaborated with fellow students, performed in live settings, and grew as a musician. However, last year, he made the bold decision to step away from the band and embrace the challenge of performing as a solo artist. It was a pivotal moment in his journey—one that would push him outside his comfort zone and into new territory as a frontman.
His breakthrough moment came at Showcase XXIV at The Mint, where Nathan took the stage for a set that left a lasting impression. He began with a performance of Blackbird by The Beatles, accompanied by the incredible Alex Nester on vocals. It was a beautifully executed rendition, highlighting his intricate guitar work and musical sensitivity.
But it was his second song that truly defined his growth as an artist. Taking on We’re Going to Be Friends by The White Stripes, Nathan stepped up to the microphone, playing and singing entirely on his own. The transformation was undeniable. Gone was the reserved musician of past performances—in his place was a confident, charismatic young artist who owned the stage with grace and poise.

For our team, this performance was more than just another great moment on stage. It was a testament to what music education is all about: developing not just technical skill, but self-belief and personal expression. Seeing Nathan command the stage with such confidence was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.
Nathan’s journey is far from over, and we are so excited to see where his passion and dedication take him next. Whether he continues as a solo artist or joins another group, one thing is certain—he has found his voice, and it’s only getting stronger.
Congratulations, Nathan, on being our Student Of The Month. Your growth, determination, and artistry continue to inspire us all.
