At SoundLife, we are lucky to have students who don’t just learn music—they help build the very community we play in. This month, we are incredibly proud to feature Van, an exceptional guitar student who has been a cornerstone of our program.

Where It All Started
Van’s journey with SoundLife began in the high-energy classrooms of our very first Rock Band class at the Marlborough Summer School. From day one, his energy was absolutely infectious. It was that specific spark that planted the seeds for what the Marlborough programs have become today. As we move into our third year running that program, we know it wouldn’t be what it is without Van’s early contributions.
To this day, Chris (our Program Director) keeps a very special memento next to his desk: a broken drumhead signed by Van and his original classmates at the end of that first summer.
"I cherish that gift so much," says Chris. "It reminds me every single day that we have the opportunity to make a real impact. Van was a huge part of creating that culture of appreciation and rock 'n' roll spirit."
Leveling Up: The Yamaha Pacifica
Van currently studies guitar with instructor Adam Gimenez, and his progress has been nothing short of remarkable. He recently reached a major milestone in his musical journey: outgrowing his starter gear and leveling up to a brand-new Yamaha Pacifica. The Pacifica is a legendary "next step" guitar, known for its versatility and tone—the perfect tool for a player who is ready to take their skills to the professional level.

On the Rise with "Bread"
When he isn't honing his craft in private lessons, Van is a driving force in his band, Bread. Under the fearless leadership of their band coach, Enrique, the group is currently deep in rehearsals for our upcoming Showcase XXVII.
The band is preparing an ambitious five-song set. While the final song selections are still a closely guarded secret, we know that with Van’s stage presence and the band’s chemistry, anything is possible.
Why We Love Having Van in the Community
Van represents the best of what we do here. He doesn't just show up to play; he shows up to lift everyone else up around him. Whether he’s mastering a new riff with Adam or leading the charge with Bread, he comes ready to rock and brings a level of dedication that inspires both his peers and his teachers.
Congratulations, Van! Thank you for being such an incredible part of our musical family. We can’t wait to see you tear it up on stage at the showcase!
