Congratulations to Zeke on being selected as our
December Student of the Month!
Since joining SoundLife Music Academy in January 2019, Zeke Greene has exemplified dedication, perseverance, and passion for music. As a guitarist, Zeke’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring, showcasing steady growth and an unwavering commitment to honing his craft. His first stage appearance at Showcase XVI in December 2019 saw him perform "Birthday" by The Beatles alongside our All-Star House Band, and since then, Zeke has taken the stage time and again, delivering remarkable performances that continue to raise the bar.
Over the years, Zeke has tackled some of the most iconic and challenging guitar pieces, including "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "Crazy Train." Each performance demonstrated his ability to grow not only technically but also artistically, as he developed his stage presence and confidence. Most recently, Zeke and his band, GRB, took on the monumental task of covering "Highway Star" by Deep Purple. This classic rock anthem, known for its intricate guitar solo by Richie Blackmore, tested Zeke’s skills like never before.
While much of the solo came naturally to Zeke, one particular segment required him to master a new technique: tremolo picking. This advanced method involves lightning-fast, precise up-and-down strokes on a single string to create a fluid and continuous sound. Zeke rose to the challenge with determination, dedicating himself to learning and perfecting the technique. His hard work paid off on November 19 at Band Night, held at The Riff Yard in Culver City. GRB’s debut performance of "Highway Star" was a triumph, and Zeke’s command over his instrument was undeniable. Not only did he nail the solo, but his confidence and expressive playing reached a new peak, marking a pivotal moment in his musical journey.
Watching Zeke achieve this breakthrough was a proud moment for everyone at SoundLife. It’s moments like these that embody what we strive to foster—students pushing past their limits to discover new heights of expression and artistry. We are thrilled to see what comes next as GRB prepares to take the stage at Showcase XXIV on December 14 at The Mint in Los Angeles. This performance will be extra special as the band records their entire set live, capturing this incredible chapter of their musical story.
