Congratulations to Sophie on being selected as our September Student of the Month!
Sophie’s musical journey began during Marlborough Summer School in 2021, where she first took drum lessons under the guidance of her instructor, Josh Doyle. Inspired by her experience and eager to continue learning, Sophie joined SoundLife Music Academy in the fall of the same year. Initially studying with Sam Ruff, Sophie transitioned to working with our Lead Instructor and Team Manager, Enrique Lara, continuing her steady progression on both the drums and piano. Throughout this time, her dedication and passion for music have remained unwavering, as she embraced every opportunity to refine her skills.
In the spring of 2023, Sophie took a major leap forward by joining her first band, The Sound Seekers. Their debut performance at Showcase XXII, where they played "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran, was nothing short of spectacular. The band impressed everyone in attendance with their chemistry and stage presence, a testament to the hard work and preparation they had put in. Over the summer, Sophie and her bandmates continued to expand their repertoire and fine-tune their sound, solidifying their place as a standout group within the SoundLife community.
Sophie's instructor, Enrique, shared his thoughts on her growth as a musician: "Sophie always had fun playing along to songs and engaging in our rhythmic call-and-response games when she first started lessons. When I invited her to join a new SoundLife band, she was initially nervous, having never played in a band before. I am thrilled to say that she has wholeheartedly embraced her role as the time-keeper and backbone of The Sound Seekers. Recently, she has even taken our rhythmic games to a new level, engaging in improvised jams with Kameron, our bassist."
Sophie’s story is a shining example of the power of persistence and a willingness to step outside one's comfort zone. Her musical talents continue to evolve, and her commitment to her band and her craft make her a valued member of the SoundLife family. We’re excited to see where her musical journey takes her next!
